Project Description
As part of Caltrain's ongoing, system-wide electrification program, Tunnel #4 was analyzed and rehabilitated along the Caltrain corridor. Due to poor drainage and settlement issues, Tunnel #4 was suffering from extensive tunnel floor slab failure.
Scope of Services
RSE's team provided its expertise and experience to investigate existing conditions and analyze and identify the underlying settlement issues. Methods used by RSE to accomplish this determination included:

As a result of RSE's work, a number of practical, cost-effective alternatives to mitigate the settlement issues where identified; including, various tunnel slab options, geotechnical improvements, and drainage improvements with a potential need to install several new pump stations.
